CONFERENCE PRESENTATIONS:
Spies With War Winning Implications: Inside the Walker Network
John Walker, along with his best friend Jerry Whitworth, his brother Arthur and his son Michael were all arrested for espionage in the summer of 1985. He and eventually his network had been spies for the KGB since 1967. CI Centre Professor KGB Major General Oleg Kalugin supervised this case for the Soviets when it began and when it ended, John Walker was brought to CI Centre Professor David Major’s office in the Baltimore Office of the FBI. The story between these years will be explored as never before. Answers to such questions as: how was the case handled by the KGB, how important was the case to the Soviets, how could it last for so long, who was John Walker and members of his ring, what were they really like and what were the untold stories about how this extraordinary espionage case was uncovered. What was the damage to US national security that resulted from this profoundly important case? Even for those who have examined this espionage in the past will be surprised by the unknown wars behind this case.
The Canadian RCMP/KGB Wars
Marked by kidnapping, death, sleeper agents, penetration agents, moles, betrayal of friendships, double agents, and recruitments around the world - this war had international implications. For decades the secret warriors of the Canadian RCMP battled the KGB in the Northern most regions of North America. This war was waged by quiet and highly dedicated officers of the RCMP and Russian/Soviet officers with little or no knowledge by the Canadian or American public. This complicated story cut to the very depth of the espionage wars that are played out in secrecy with deception, and operational games. This is how the real unknown wars of espionage are conducted as told by those that lived in the midst of the battle.
Technical Espionage Wars: IVY BELLS/ TAW/ ABSORB
From sewers, buildings, bridges, basements, tunnels, railways to the very depth of the ocean floor around the world, technical collections espionage operations have been implemented with amazing secrecy and bravado. The battles were waged out of the sight and sound of the public. The KGB, CIA, NSA, and the US Navy have conducted some of the most successful, productive and imaginative technical intelligence collections conceived. The development, deployment, productivity and compromise of some of these highly classified projects represented some of the most daring unknown battles in the espionage wars. The details of these operations and how they were compromised will be revealed in this riveting session.
In honor of Veterans Day, we salute all veterans of past wars, including those who fought in the espionage wars. Nigel West will talk about the newly released top secret diaries of Guy Liddell, MI5's Director of Counterintelligence, which give fantastic insight to unknown espionage operations against the Nazis during World War II.
Terror’s Espionage Warfare
In today’s world, intelligence and counterintelligence services are in the search for the secret sleeper cells waiting to attack the innocent. What intelligence dots could have been connected prior to September 11, 2001 to alert the United States of the impending attack? What dots have been connected and how are the terrorists being tracked down around the world since the world changed on that day? Example is the face of the Islamic Jihad’s espionage and terror war we face today.
In Israel’s life and death struggle it has been in both a military and espionage war for the past 56 years. We examine how the Israeli intelligence and counterintelligence services operate worldwide and recruit support agents to fulfill highly risky and dramatic intelligence operations. The seminar examines the operational imperative of Israeli intelligence. Numerous high and low profile worldwide Israeli intelligence operations will be examined to illustrate the methods of operation and the aggressiveness of these services.
